Last match could be Man United midweek
As the league fixture falls on FA Cup Semi final weekend if either or both West Ham or Manchester Unnited are involved in the FA Cup still, the game will be postponed. If Manchester United are still in the Europa League, they will have matches on 28th April and 5th May leaving only 10th or 11th May as viable options for the rearranged league match. This would then be the last game at The Boleyn.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but information for those making plans, I assume that not everyone is aware. Having seen anything official from the club.

Could have been avoided had the owners not INSISTED on being away last game of the season.

Weird decision.

This could fuck up a LOT of carefully laid plans.

Only reason I can think of is that they figured the last game at the Boleyn would be guaranteed to be both a full house AND shown live on TV - netting them an extra £800k+.

If it was the last game of the season then Sky/BT might have other preferences, depending on relegation/title battles.

It was a wired decision!

Anyway, hope this happens... much better last game at the old place.

*weird

So fuck tradition for £800k, is that what we are saying?

Even though we're getting over £100m from TV alone next season?

FANTASTIC

To be fair, they assumed that the final game would be the Swansea one, which still might be the case. It was never going to be a Saturday 3pm kickoff in any case.

Re: Last match could be Man United midweek
Nothing to stop people 'celebrating' or whatever it is they want to do at the last Sat 3pm game v Swansea and the last midweek under lights game v Man Utd.
I think the latter would be an entirely appropriate last game.

The Man Utd fans should be kept in after the final whistle and we can detonate the destruction of the Sir Trev stand 30mins later.
Beats fireworks

No they ASKED the PL fixture people to make sure we were the PENULTIMATE game of the season so they could coin some TV revenue.

They then tried to lie about it.

There was no assumption.

Re: Last match could be Man United midweek
According to a Hugh Southon article last summer it was actually the Premier League who insisted on our last game of the season being away, quoting a PL source - “I think everybody across he country would want it on TV as a national event and on the last day other issues may get in the way of that.”

Yes, I know it's Hugh Southon, but still I would imagine that the PL and Sky/BT would both be very much into the idea and bring pressure to bear on WHU to do this.

Re: Last match could be Man United midweek
The Premierleague fixture were asked live on radio why our game was not last. They replied that we asked for it to be.

I know who I would rather believe given our lot's track record.

But I thought those terrible owners always lie and we must blame them for everything?

*not to be of course.

To be fair, it may well have been a mutual decision in the end. Although if we were at home on the last weekend then it may well have been on the TV anyway as Sky/BT could hold back an extra slot probably.

Re: Last match could be Man United midweek
You're not going to celebrate the last home match if it isn't actually the last home match.

Johnson 11:05 Thu Jan 21
Re: Last match could be Man United midweek
No, we asked. Clubs have to submit their request in before the fixtures are done.

You can't all sit around and have a chat about it.

I actually get why they did it for once, to allow fans who can't attend to watch but what I don't get is why they lied about it. Seems to be a worrying theme with club communications at every level aside from the playing side now OAF has gone.

Why couldn't the game just be put back to the Tuesday / Wednesday of the following week?

This has been done to death

It was a joint agreement between the club, the PL and Sky as Sky want to show the game live as a celebration allowing the 100,000's of West Ham fans without tickets to be able to watch the last game.

It's the right and correct thing to do
